The ASHRAE Journal is not a free publication. It comes with ASHRAE membership or is available to non-members by subscription. Many of my contacts are members.
Here are some comments from my professional reading today.
AHR Show special section
This is the AHR Show issue, with a special 150-page section, right after page 40. There is a foldout floor plan of the booths and a directory. If you are staying home you should skim the pages anyway. Advertisers are showing off their most useful products.
Columns
I like the columns, where an expert talks directly to me as the reader in conversational style. This month the columns are about designing for a sustainable and maintainable building, the importance of considering ventilation when planning for decarbonization, and the Refrigeration Applications column is about the ramifications of refrigerant leaks outside the equipment and how Sammy Davis, Jr. also had thoughts about keeping things tight. These authors are great storytellers. These columns are part entertainment and part talking shop with engineers.
Feature articles
There are two Feature articles. My personal technical library has many of these in pdf. Features are densely written technical papers, often describing research projects that took months or years, have multiple authors, multiple references, and information presented in tables and graphs. Some Features describe the background of the development of Standards and Codes. Some are history articles.
One Feature is titled, “Control Strategies to Limit Cabin CO2 Concentrations in Cars.”
The other Feature is titled, “Integrating User Carbon into the Whole Life Carbon Assessments Standard.”
What I gleaned
For my role as an energy utilization engineer, I am looking for case studies with cost, savings, and return on investment. I am also looking for rules of thumb. I don’t see either of these this month.
I also need to keep up with the state-of-the-art products from manufacturers. My role in the industry is in developing a project using commercially available products to provide benefits to building owners. The annual AHR show is one place I can pick up ideas to expand my own services.
